5 ways to keep positive while staying at home

While we go through tough times together, it is important to remember that there are plenty of ways to stay positive, and even improve ourselves so that we can come out better on the other side! While we may think it is impossible to stick to a similar routine to what we had before we had to stay home, there are tons of ways to adapt our old routines so that we can still keep to them! Whether your exercise routine has been affected, your meal plan, or your social life, there are plenty of alternatives to maintaining your positivity, health and happiness during these times!

What can you do to uplift yourself? While it may seem impossible to carry on with specific activities, there really are so many ways to keep yourself entertained and healthy while staying home. Are you staying active? When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins trigger a positive feeling in the body! If you are not exercising, try moving your body to release some endorphins! A great way to keep your body moving is by doing some light yoga stretching or simple home workouts.

What can you do to keep busy? While it seems there are endless hours in the day, there are tons of activities we can be doing to keep our minds busy and working! Grab the book you have been wanting to read but never had the time for. Start writing in the journal that you bought yourself but never took the time to write in. These are all activities that will get your mind going and make you feel productive. Stick to a routine Of course, it is not as easy sticking to the exact same routine you had before the virus regulations, but, sticking to any sort of routine will help make your day feel more structured! Plan out time for yourself, even if the activities have had to change! Try making a checklist for yourself of things to complete during the day to hold yourself accountable! It really helps, and not to mention, it is oh-so satisfying to check off something you’ve completed! Smile! Did you know smiling has some major health and mood benefits? A 2010 study found that even if you’re down, making yourself smile helps improve your mood and increases positive thoughts! So, if you are having a bad day, try smiling. It may lead to something unexpected! Smiling is also known for:

  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Stress relief
  • Better relationships
  • Stronger Immune Function

So, we think it is safe to say, there is no harm in smiling right now!
